“The Lord takes pleasure in those who fear him, in those who hope in his steadfast love.”Psalm 147.11 (NRSV)
Where do we put our hope? Do we have hope for the future? It is easy to let the onslaught of bad news bring us down. So many negative events happen. They are a distraction. They can rob us of our hope.
I was surfing the internet and saw a shocking story from a few months ago. When the news broke, there were so many other stories that I did not notice this one. I completely missed it.
Did missing this particular story impact my life? No. I could have continued in ignorance, but remaining informed is part of our civic duty. It helps us know how to respond to the world around us. It helps form the basis for our participatory democracy.
Looking ahead, we can be hopeful. The sun rises each day. The world keeps turning. Even though we face an extreme climate crisis and world politics could deteriorate more. There is hope.
When we look around, we can see good things happening. God is still God and active in this world. Yes, there are bad things. There are so many that we miss some ugly stories, like the one I learned about today. But, there is still hope.
